The John Smith Show

John Smith, Deaf comedianJohn Smith, Britain’s foremost Deaf comedian, will be appearing at the Deaffest’s Film Awards Evening on Saturday 24th November at 7.30pm.

Since making his stand-up debut in 2005, John Smith’s comedy career has taken off like a rocket. In August, his one-man show was a sell-out at the British Deaf Association Congress in Southport. This season, he had bookings all over the UK, from Kidderminster to Inverness and from Birmingham to Belfast and in Prague at the invitation of the Czech Union of the Deaf.

What gives a cutting edge to John Smith’s humour is his sharp observations and insights into the lives of the Deaf community. Born into a hearing family, and growing up Deaf in a hearing world, John was exposed to many of the painful, sometimes cruel, but often hilarious experiences shared by his Deaf audience. This is why in the space of just two short years he is already being hailed as the Peter Kay of the Deaf world.

Although he performs in British Sign Language, John Smith’s humour is so visual that hearing audiences will also be able to see why he has become so successful.
